God is a Faithful Instructor: (Psalm 25:8-9, 12, Deuteronomy 8:5, Hebrews 12:6, etc...)
For a long time (i.e. my whole life) I have hated to participate in 'social events' or anything that stands on a lot of ceremony (i.e. anything that requires I 'dress nice') . . . but recently I was having a conversation with a friend along those lines and I pin-pointed one of my frustrations as the fact that we often do not deliberately direct our attention - or that of others - to far better reasons to be gathering together: the praise of God, the glory and majesty of our LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ, etc...
Then my friend pointed out that I should then implement what I was talking about in an upcoming event (something of a graduation ceremony) that we have to prepare. Instantly I felt utterly foolish and absolutely delighted at the same time. Through my friend the Holy Spirit had just shown me two things: 1- I should not view 'social occasions' with disdain or irritation because I would rather do something else, but should instead view them as an opportunity to speak of Christ with and exhort fellow believers in the ways of our loving King (or share Christ with non-believers) and 2- I must strive to practically apply the growing desire to involve the praise, worship, honoring, and lifting up of God in everything that I do :D
1 Corinthians 10:31, Philippians 4:8, Colossians 3:17, etc...
Friends are great soundboards: (Proverbs 15:22)
Obviously to truly learn and grow it is best to have conversations and study-time with people older and wiser than yourself or your peers, but I have recently noticed how helpful it is to have a good friend with whom you can talk or share your ideas that helps in articulating them or finding the weak points in those ideas . . . also, it's great to find a subject and hear others' opinion or thoughts on it rather than my own (I still haven't come even close to mastering the 'art of listening' :P :)
And now I look at the clock and think I should be heading to bed ;P :) . . . so I'll close and thank you for reading this short little tangent summarizing the thoughts and 'lessons' I have had/encountered over the last few weeks :]
Isn't it awe-inspiring that there are so many more ways that we can honor and praise the Lord than many of us ever think! xD
"And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." ~ Colossians 3:17
